Luxora
Luxora dropped onto my phone as a fairly quiet download and turned into the game I kept opening every night for two weeks. You play a wanderer who stumbles into Luxora, a floating city that fell out of the sky generations ago, and the whole loop is about waking it back up — recruiting characters, unlocking districts, and slowly piecing together why it fell in the first place.
Combat is turn-based but never sluggish. You line up a party of three, chain elemental skills, and the game rewards planning over button-mashing. The controls are clean: everything sits within thumb reach, and there's a proper pause so you're never rushed. I especially liked that skills have visible cooldown timers instead of hidden ones, so you can actually plan a turn ahead.
The best part is that all of it runs offline. I finished a five-hour chunk of the story on a flight with airplane mode on and never hit a wall. The art style — soft, painted backdrops with expressive little sprite characters — holds up beautifully even on a mid-range screen.
What we liked
- Full campaign works with zero connection
- Turn-based combat that respects your brain
- Gorgeous hand-painted city that opens up as you play
